The Alamac apartments, Collins Avenue

Espanola Way has one of the few areas of single-family homes on South Beach.

Old buildings south of Fifth Street are being renovated as loft apartments.

Highrises have replaced many of the older buildings along the Biscayne Bay shoreline.

Many early homes were built of oolitic limestone (coral rock), but few remain standing today.

Most of the pre-1920 apartments south of Fifth Street were demolished.
